To survive and thrive at school, students with dyslexia need classroom accommodations.

To learn which accommodations your child needs, and why accommodations are necessary and fair, watch my free on-line video called Classroom Accommodations for Dyslexic Students.

Or watch my shorter 8 minute video chat called 5 Things All Teachers Should Do.

Shame

Shame is a major problem for children with dyslexia.

Shame happens when parents or teachers do not understand dyslexia -- or do not explain it to their child.

Ben Foss has a great book for parents that is a step-by-step guide on how to get rid of the shame. It is one of my favorite books.

The Dyslexia Empowerment Plan
A Blueprint for Renewing Your Child's Confidence and Love of Learning

by Ben Foss

Available from Amazon on audio, on Kindle, and as a book.

For Susan Barton's advice on how to explain dyslexia to a child, watch this 4 minute video chat.

Documentary: Hard To Read
How American schools fail students with dyslexia

by Emily Hanford and Steven Smith
from American Public Radio

This is an outstanding 55 minute radio show -- that every parent of a child with dyslexia can relate to.

Summary:
There are proven ways to help people with dyslexia learn to read, and a federal law that's supposed to ensure schools provide kids with help. But across the country, most public schools deny children proper treatment and often fail to identify them with dyslexia in the first place.

Never In My 45 Years of O-G

Susan Barton has heard this from parents and from many professional tutors who switched to the Barton System after years of using a regular Orton-Gillingham program.

Parents are thrilled with the progress their children make when working with Certified Barton tutors. Parent Anna Thompson White recently shared:

My sister wrote this about my 15-year-old son. He spent several years with a Barton tutor. She worked tirelessly and patiently to get him to where he is today a happy and confident reader.

He has more work that he knows he has to put in, in order to get to where he wants to go, but he is on the road to success.

Thanks for all that you do for families like mine.

Click here to see the inspiring story her sister wrote, and how successful children with dyslexia can be with grit, determination, and lots of hard work.

New Homonym Game

Barton tutors and students love the Spelling Success card games. Their latest game helps students master the meaning of homonyms in which one has a vowel team and the other ends with Silent-E, such as maid/made, loan/lone, and pail/pale.

Or order this new game, or view any of their 22 card games for the Barton System, click here.
