Holiday Travel Tips

Traveling during the holidays can be challenging, but it can be especially overwhelming for someone with dyslexia.

Here are some tips that can help.

1. Use Travel Apps

PackPoint: A user-friendly packing list app that simplifies the packing process and alleviates anxiety.

TripIt: This app organizes your travel plans, no matter where you book. Forward confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com, and a comprehensive itinerary will be generated in seconds. PackPoint can sync with TripIt to create packing lists from your TripIt itinerary.

Apple or Google Maps: Before your trip, enter key addresses into your preferred map app.

Airline apps: Most airline apps have GPS-enabled walking maps for easy navigation through airports. This can be very helpful when you are trying to find your connecting gate and can’t locate an airline employee.

2. Double-check your reservations

  • Confirm your dates
  • Confirm flight times (verify a.m. or p.m.)

3. Prepare documents in advance

  • Organize travel documents in a physical or digital folder for easy access
  • Take screenshots of boarding passes and IDs as a backup

4. Time management

Allow plenty of time to check in, get through security, and handle any unexpected delays. Running late only adds unnecessary stress. If traveling by car, plan to drive during non-peak hours.

5. Ask for help

  • If you have a tight connection, ask your flight attendant for gate information
  • Many airports and train stations have information desks

The tips can make traveling during the holidays a more enjoyable and stress-free experience.

Omari McQueen: Why Dyslexic Thinking is the secret ingredient to success

People with dyslexia have amazingly creative minds. Omari McQueen is a 16-year-old chef and entrepreneur with just such a mind.

By the time he was 12, Omari had already become CEO of his own company, opened a pop-up restaurant, and hosted a cooking show on BBC TV, but he struggled so much in school that his teachers told him he wasn’t smart enough to pass his SATs.

Watch this fantastic interview from Made By Dyslexia. It proves how important it is to help your child find his or her gifted areas.

People with dyslexia possess a remarkable determination that sets them apart. Their journey is often filled with unique challenges that require creativity, resilience, and an unwavering will to succeed.

Each word read, each sentence written, is a testament to their ability to overcome obstacles and find new ways to thrive. Instead of being held back by difficulties, individuals with dyslexia harness their struggles as stepping stones, turning what others might see as limitations into opportunities for growth.

Their persistence in mastering skills that may not come easily is a reflection of their inner strength and resolve to achieve their goals. This determination often extends beyond academics, shaping how people with dyslexia approach life as a whole. They are innovative problem-solvers, finding creative methods to navigate the world and excel in their passions.

Whether it's inventing new ways to learn, advocating for themselves, or excelling in a field that highlights their strengths, their drive to persevere is truly inspiring.
